This decision sparked protests from Congress and AAP councillors, who, in a coalition for the mayoral polls, criticized the BJP for allegedly obstructing the election process to prevent an anticipated defeat. Subsequently, the AAP took the matter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which issued notices to the Chandigarh administration and municipal corporation.
